Reading Champs Common Sense Mini-lesson # 045
TITLE: Finding Important Details; Clarifying Text (Reading Comprehension)
Catalog Index: CSML-045
Price (USD): $4.95

Finding Important Details / Clarifying Text
(Reading Comprehension)

More complex than sentence reading, paragraphs have a central thought and more details that can confuse a reader. Good readers sort out details from main ideas and understand the relationships among sentences.

Knowledge of sentence structure and punctuation helps the reader analyze sentences and paragraphs. Each paragraph contains a core thought (main topic) and details which are subordinate to the core thought. The reader's job is to separate the lesser information from the main idea and decide which details are most important to fully understand the main idea.
