Reading Champs Common Sense Mini-lesson # 016

TITLE: Vowel Teams: Phonics Sequence # 9

Catalog Index: CSML-016

Price (USD): $5.95

Vowel Teams
(Phonics Sequence #9)

In many instances, vowel pairs are consistent with the first vowel being long and the second vowel silent. But in a few cases, the first vowel is silent. Occasionally, the two vowels have a long sound or the vowel pair may have an entirely different sound.

Before proceeding into, and beyond, this session, students should be familiar with the names and classifications (consonant or vowel) of all 26 letters and the primary sounds of the English alphabet on sight. This can be verified very quickly with an alphabet flash card set. Understanding  the effect of context on the sound of a letter is highly desirable but may not be established firmly in early readers.
