ATTENTION WRITERS

Are you ...
... a new writer looking for "a break?"

... a "lightly published" writer looking to test your work?
... an experienced writer with something different to say?
... a classroom teacher tired of giant publishers who don't listen?
... a poet looking for a publishing source you don't have to buy?

This could be just the place for which you are looking.

IVE FOCUS TEXT PUBLISHERS
CONTENT AND SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
FOR
WRITERS AND GRAPHICS ARTISTS

IVE Focus Text Publishers is an electronic publisher focusing on works in specialized markets and in those within the broad interests of the general public.  Our primary method of promulgation is as e-books via the Internet.  Publication-on-demand is an available option but is not encouraged for both logistic and financial considerations.

PAYMENT:  Focus Text Publishers does not make advance payments to free-lance writers.  Payment for graphics and publication-support items will be under the terms of specific programs and contracts.  In most cases, compensation for creative services is based on a percentage of sales revenues.  FOR GENERAL MARKET PRODUCTS--These will be between 30% and 50% of publication sales for editorial less 10% to 15% for graphics products.  FOR ALL OTHER MARKETS--compensation will be determined on a project-by-project basis.

Unless other arrangements are made and agreed IN ADVANCE, all compensation will be remitted through PayPal, which means that each free-lance contributor MUST have a PayPal account.  If an individual does not have an account, basic accounts are free, and may be set up on-line (click on the link at the bottom of most IVE, Focus Text, or e-netlibrary pages or go to www.paypal.com).

CONTENT:  Focus Texts in all genre, even at professional levels, are intended to be relatively short and strongly focused on particular subject.  As a general rule they will be between 500 to 2,500 words (two to ten pages) for "white papers" up to 25,000 words (up to 100 pages) for more comprehensive topics and most fiction works.  On very rare occasions, longer works will be considered but these may be recommended for presentation as a series.  Editorial format should conform to either the Chicago, API, or GPO Style guides. Wherever possible, Language level should be between 7th and 10th Grade.  Most word processors have the capability of analyzing text to determine the language level.

FORMAT:  Because Focus Text Publishers' products are primarily formatted for electronic distribution, we request that your finished document be provided either as a WORD (.doc)  [preferred] or other specific word processing document.  DO NOT submit documents as .html (hyper-text markup language) or .pdf (printable document format) files as neither of these can be worked with conveniently by our editorial staff.  Any revisions will be submitted to you (in word-document format) for your acceptance prior to conversion to .pdf files for on-line promulgation.

SUBMITTALS:  We do not require inquiries for short works (up to 1,500 words.) Go ahead and submit your final drafts. Over this limit, we prefer to receive a formal query letter and one or two manuscript pages. ALL submittals should be by e-mail reference addressed (in the subject line) to a specific editor and department (see the list on the left).  The first paragraph should be a brief writers credential written in the third person (25-30 words or less).  The second paragraph should be a brief summary of the story or article (50 words or less).  In the case of Recreational Reading, specify either Fiction or Non-fiction.

EXAMPLE
ADDRESS:    writers@focustext.com
ATTENTION:   Tom Koziol, Business Editor

Paragraph 1: Don Werve is a small business professional with over 20 years management experience.  He is also high school and adult education teacher with over 13 years in the classroom. [29 words]
Paragraph  2: In today's business environment it has become more and more difficult to identify and communicate with potential customers.  This is why it is critical to determine your 3 most primary potential customer groups and the methods of choice in reaching them. [41 words]
Working Title: Reach Out and Touch ... Whom and How!

PRE-REGISTRATION
Preferred but not required.

Individuals interested in publishing their works as e-books within the E-net Library are encouraged to register with us
at no cost as freelancers.  You do this by simply by sending an e-mail to registry@surewest.net with a subject of "Writer Registration" and your name.

In the e-mail, give us the name you would like be writing under, where you are located, and the categories you would most like to write in.  We would like to know a little bit about you and what you have done ("not much" is acceptable). If you have no specific preference or, if you can write with authority on almost any subject (like me and a few other people around here) then just say " ... I wanna be like you ... " and tell me where the line--it's from a song--comes from.

By the way, we all have tremendous senses of humor. We are all teachers (or retired teachers), and writers (who never really retire). And we absolutely love to work with new writers who are interested in growing in their career.  We even love working with other teachers and their kids (with their recommendation and under supervision) who are showing talent and are inclined to want to write--even for the fun of it.  But we do not sell writing seminars!
