The
POWER to LEARN

IVE-Focus Text Publishers is devoted to the creation and promulgation of all genre of creative writing. Our main concentration is publications and materials to support curricula and instructional programs developed by The IVE League's Research and Development Group and its non-affiliated associates.

FOCUS TEXT BEGINS READING CHAMPS R & D PROGRAM MOVE TOWARD CLASSROOMS

Following over sixteen years in various stages of in-classroom development and testing by program creator Rita Wirtz. M.A., and two and a half years of joint formatting and planning with The IVE League, Rita Wirtz' Reading Champs has come of age with the release of Reading Champs Common Sense Mini Lessons (CSML for short). CSML is a new look at reading instruction delivery, starting in pre-kindergarten and carrying on through high school. Tested and validated in numerous tutoring sessions and over 600 classrooms, it is intended to be useful for every teaching environment from home schooling to large urban districts.
"The release," says co-publisher and IVE Executive Director Don Werve, "is going to be very low key compared to others in the publishing industry. This is because we are blazing new trails in the education field and in the primary delivery mode.
"The books are being offered as individual instructional handbooks, as themed sections, or as an entire
308-page
library," Werve continued. "We hope to make most of our program placements and deliveries using the Internet and .pdf files. Printed copies will also be available using POD (Print On Demand) production, but in either case, it means that any new deliveries will be in most-current status. On top of this, we will be providing free on-line monthly unit updates at no additional cost.
"As you can see, this is going to take a lot of getting-used-to in a market where most technical materials are anywhere from six months to two years out-of-date when they reach the distribution networks."
Taking the customer service and satisfaction to an even higher level, the publisher (IVE Focus Text Publishers--an independent affiliate of The IVE League) is offering a free, five-book, 28-page introductory packet to individuals who register as Reading Champs Coaches--also at no cost--through the end of July, 2009.
More information about the Reading Champs program, and the complete CSML catalog, can be found at www.readingchamps.com.

MACEDONIAN LEGACIES:
focus of regina books release is macedonian history and culture

This new work by Timothy Howe and Jeanne Reames is a justified addition to library shelves, not only because it celebrates one of the foremost scholars in the field, but also for the strides in new research offered here in Gene Borza’s honor. This volume’s contributors include some of the most distinguished names currently involved in Macedonian scholarship and related areas of ancient history. The range of papers is impressive—in areas, in disciplines, and in foci.
Carol Thomas’s opening essay surveys the attitudes, internal and external, ancient and modern, toward ancient Macedonia and “centers” this heretofore “peripheral” border state—just as the study of Macedonia itself (not only of Alexander and Philip) has come increasingly into focus among Hellenists, beginning with the work of Charles F. Edson and N. G. L. Hammond in the late 1960s and early 1970s. So instead of looking into Macedonia from the Greek-Athenian south, this collection hopes to look out from the north—a particularly Macedonian view. The closing paper comes from Kenneth Harl, writing on the battle of Magnesia, which might be seen as the sunset of Macedonian power brought about by yet another initially peripheral state that re-centered that periphery: Rome.
In between Thomas’s and Harl’s papers are a wealth of other essays that employ recent archaeology, art history, social history, military history, philology, comparative literary analysis, prosopography, political analysis and even interdisciplinary work utilizing the social sciences. What is particularly exciting about these papers is how they often combine academic disciplines in fruitful ways to shine new light on old questions.
